My name is Josh, and I love sneakers.

This obsession dates back to the early nineties. In those days Shawn Kemp, Grant Hill, Michael Jordan, and Penny Hardaway ruled the streets.

Here’s the backstory:

I grew up in a Connecticut city with poverty rates 30% higher than the national average. My family lived in low income housing and many families struggled to make ends meet. As dumb as it sounds, sneakers were a status symbol for people who grew up in this environment. Kids literally obsessed over sneakers.

Myself included.

At the beginning of each school year, my dad would take me to get a new pair of sneakers. My dad had two rules for this transaction:

1. You get one pair of sneakers for the year.
2. The sneakers can’t cost more than $40.

With those guidelines in the back of my mind, I waited for a sneaker sale and tried to find coolest pair of shoes that $40 could buy. It was a tedious process, and I may have secretly cried once or twice along the way, but my dad (who grew up poor) taught me to shop for bargains and be thankful. He also taught me to take care of the things I owned.

To this day, I still have a tough time actually wearing a new pair of sneakers. Once I give in to wearing new kicks, I get several years out of each pair that I own. My sneaker maintenance routine may or may not include washing, scrubbing, polishing and matching my sneaker choice to current weather conditions.

Some of you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Why SneakaDeal?

SneakaDeal was an idea that started brewing back in 2010. In late 2012, it became a reality.

Each day, I therapeutically search the web for the best sneaker deals and share them with the world.

My goal is to help sneaker enthusiasts:

  • Save time and money
  • Find awesome sneakers

I can still remember the satisfaction I experienced (at age 22) when I purchased my first pair of Jordan’s for less than half the cost.

SneakaDeal is the outflow of that joy.

Thanks for stopping by,

Josh
